New Holland ENG 3201 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Cylinder4 Warning - Current Level Error
Issue description
This fault code indicates an electrical anomaly in the fuel injector circuit for Cylinder 4. Specifically, the "Current Level Error" means the Engine Control Unit has detected that the electrical current (amperage) required to actuate the Cylinder 4 fuel injector solenoid is outside the expected parameters. This is typically caused by high resistance, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the injector's electrical solenoid.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the engine wiring harness between the Engine ECU (EDC) and the Cylinder 4 fuel injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or loose/corroded connector pins.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the Cylinder 4 injector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the injector solenoid pins. Compare the reading to the OEM specification.
Check the harness side of the connector for continuity back to the ECU, and ensure there is no short-to-ground or short-to-battery voltage on the injector circuit.
If wiring tests fine, swap the Cylinder 4 injector with the Cylinder 3 injector. Clear codes and run the engine. If the fault changes to ENG 3197, the injector is faulty; if it remains ENG 3201, the issue is in the wiring harness or ECU.
Repair steps
Depressurize
Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and allow the engine to cool. Ensure the high-pressure common rail fuel system is completely depressurized.
Access the Injector
Remove the engine valve cover or injector access panels to reach the Cylinder 4 fuel injector.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the Cylinder 4 injector.
Remove Fuel Lines
Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to the Cylinder 4 injector. Cap the rail fitting to prevent contamination.
Extract Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the fuel injector from the cylinder head.
Clean and Prep
Remove and discard the old copper sealing washer from the bottom of the injector bore. Thoroughly clean the injector bore.
Install New Injector
Place a new copper sealing washer and O-ring on the new injector. Seat the injector into the bore and torque the hold-down clamp to OEM specifications.
Reassemble
Install a new high-pressure fuel line (highly recommended by OEM after loosening) and torque the fittings. Reconnect the electrical connector and reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket.
ECU Programming
Reconnect the battery. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). You must program the new injector's IQA/Trim code (found on the top of the new injector) into the Engine ECU so it can properly map the fuel delivery.
Test
Prime the fuel system, start the engine, check for leaks, and verify that fault code ENG 3201 has cleared.
