New Holland ENG 3202 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Cylinder 5 Warning - Fast Decay Error

This fault code indicates a problem with the fuel injector circuit for cylinder number 5. A "Fast Decay Error" means the injector solenoid is discharging its electrical current too quickly, typically caused by a loose electrical connection, high resistance, an open circuit, or a short circuit within the injector wiring harness or the injector solenoid itself.

   Visual Inspection: Remove the engine valve cover to access the fuel injectors and check the electrical connector for the cylinder 5 injector.

   Pin Fitment Test: Ensure that the female pin in the injector wiring harness has a tight grip on the male pin of the injector.

   Harness Continuity: Verify that the wiring harness from the EDC to the cylinder 5 injector is intact, with no chafing or shorts to ground.

   Injector Resistance Test: Disconnect the wiring from the injector and use a multimeter to check the resistance of the injector solenoid (should be less than 1.0 ohm and must not show an open circuit).

   Address Loose Connections

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a loose connection at the injector, apply a small amount of high-temperature silicone sealant around the male connector to minimize vibration of the connector inside the injector body.

   Replace Wiring Harness

   If the female pins are damaged, spread, or the harness fails a continuity test, replace the injector wiring harness.

   Replace the Injector

   If the wiring and connections are secure, but the injector solenoid fails the resistance test (or if the code persists after securing the connection), the injector itself has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Reset Pre-load

   After installing a new injector, reset the injector pre-load according to the specifications in your specific engine service manual.

   Clear Codes

   Use an electronic diagnostic tool to clear the EDC fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
