New Holland ENG 3205 – Engine ECU (Bosch EDC7UC31): Cylinder5 Warning - Current Level Error
Issue description
This fault code indicates an electrical issue within the fuel injection system. Specifically, the engine controller has detected that the electrical current flowing to the Cylinder 5 fuel injector solenoid is outside of the expected parameters (current level error). This is typically caused by an internal failure of the injector's solenoid, a short circuit, an open circuit, or a wiring harness issue. When this fault is active, the controller will often disable the affected injector (or the entire bank of injectors) to protect the system, resulting in a misfire, rough running, and reduced engine power.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 5 injector. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched cables.
Disconnect the injector harness and the ECU connectors. Check for loose, pushed-back, or corroded pins (oxidation) that could cause high resistance.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the Cylinder 5 injector solenoid directly at the injector pins. Compare it to a known good injector on the same engine. A reading of infinite resistance (open) or zero resistance (short) means the injector is internally failed.
Test the injector wiring harness for a short to ground or a short to battery voltage.
If the wiring tests good, swap the Cylinder 5 injector with the Cylinder 4 injector. Clear the codes and run the engine. If the fault code changes to the Cylinder 4 circuit (ENG 3197/3201), the injector is the culprit. If the code remains on Cylinder 5 (ENG 3205), the issue is in the wiring harness or the Engine ECU itself.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Injector
Remove the engine valve cover or injector access panels as required by the specific machine model to reach the Cylinder 5 fuel injector.
Remove the Faulty Injector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 5 injector. Remove the high-pressure fuel line (cap the rail and line to prevent contamination). Remove the injector hold-down clamp and carefully extract the injector.
Install the New Injector
Clean the injector bore thoroughly. Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp and the high-pressure fuel line to the OEM specifications.
Reconnect Wiring
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new injector.
Program the Injector (IMA Coding)
Using the New Holland EST (Electronic Service Tool) diagnostic software, enter the new injector's IMA calibration code (found on the top of the new injector) into the Engine ECU. Note: Failure to program the IMA code can result in rough running and subsequent fault codes (e.g., 3908).
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system if necessary, clear the ENG 3205 fault code using the diagnostic tool, and test run the machine to verify the repair.
