New Holland ENG 3218 – Engine ECU (EDC): Injector Solenoid: Short Circuit in Injection Bank 2 (all injectors of the same bank can be affected)
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine control system has detected an electrical short circuit on the injector circuit for Bank 2. This can be caused by a short to ground (High Side to Ground), a short to the battery (Low Side to Battery), or an internal short within one of the injector solenoids. Because the injectors on a single bank share a common power or ground circuit within the module, a short in one injector or its wiring can shut down the entire bank.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the engine wiring harness from the EDC to the Bank 2 injectors for chafing, melting, or exposed wires that could be shorting to the engine block (ground) or another wire.
Use a multimeter to check the injector cable for a short circuit (Low Side to Battery or High Side to Ground).
Disconnect the electrical connectors at the Bank 2 injectors and measure the resistance across the pins of each injector solenoid. An out-of-spec or near-zero resistance reading indicates an internally shorted injector.
Check for an open load or short circuit on the Two-Way Valve (TWV) outputs at the EDC.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent damage to the EDC during testing.
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the main harness connector at the Bank 2 injectors.
Test the Harness
Check for continuity to ground and continuity to power on the harness side. If a short is found in the wiring, locate the chafed/damaged section and repair or replace the harness.
Test the Injectors
If the harness tests good, test the resistance of each individual injector on Bank 2.
Replace Faulty Components
If an injector is internally shorted, remove the fuel lines and retaining clamps, and extract the faulty injector. Install the new injector with new copper sealing washers and O-rings.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect all electrical connectors and fuel lines. Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic scan tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the ENG 3218 fault code.
Test Run
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the engine runs smoothly on all cylinders without the code returning.
