ENG 3221

New Holland ENG 3221 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Bank2 - Unclassifiable Error

Issue description

Indicates a critical internal failure or unclassifiable fault related to the Bank 2 injector circuit or the engine controller's internal processing. It is often triggered by a clock error or an interruption of the power supply voltage within the module.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7 Series
  • New Holland T8.xxx Series
  • New Holland CR9090
  • New Holland CX8080 Elevation
  • New Holland CX8090 Elevation
  • New Holland B110B Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB)
  • New Holland W190B Wheel Loader

Check the cause

  1. Check the engine wiring harness specifically routing to the Bank 2 injectors for chafing, shorts to ground, or open circuits

  2. Check the power supply voltage to the ECU, ensuring stable battery voltage and no interruptions or voltage drops at the ECU power pins

  3. Verify the injection signals using an oscilloscope or diagnostic tool to ensure the ECU is attempting to fire the Bank 2 injectors

Repair steps

  1. Inspect wiring and signals

Inspect and test the wiring harness and injection signals for Bank 2.

  2. Diagnose ECU

If the wiring harness, connectors, and injectors test good, the fault is caused by an internal ECU problem (specifically, an internal clock error or power supply interruption inside the board).

  3. Replace ECU

    Replace the Engine Control Unit.

  4. Program ECU

After replacement, the new ECU will need to be programmed/flashed with the correct dataset for the specific machine model.

Parts you might need
