New Holland ENG 3223 – Engine ECU (EDC): Bank2 Warning - Application Dependent

An electrical fault or anomaly detected in the fuel injector circuit for Bank 2 (cylinders 4, 5, and 6). The Engine Control Unit has detected an irregularity such as an open load, short circuit, or abnormal current draw on this specific bank of injectors.

   Inspect the injector wiring harness routing to Bank 2 (cylinders 4, 5, and 6) for obvious signs of chafing, melting, or rubbing against engine components.

   Disconnect the harness at the Engine ECU (EDC) and at the Bank 2 injectors. Inspect all pins and terminals for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out pins.

   Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness for Bank 2 between the ECU connectors and the injector connectors. Check for continuity, open circuits, and short circuits to ground or to battery voltage.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the terminals of each fuel injector on Bank 2. Compare the readings to OEM specifications to identify an internally shorted or open injector.

   Safety First

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery negative terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Components

   Remove any engine covers or cowlings necessary to access the engine valve cover, the fuel injectors, and the Engine ECU (EDC).

   Address Wiring Faults

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short or break in the harness, carefully open the wire loom. Repair the damaged wire using proper soldering and heat-shrink techniques, or replace the entire injector wiring harness if the damage is extensive.

   Replace Faulty Injector

   If an injector failed the resistance test, clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from entering the cylinder. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line, remove the injector hold-down clamp, and extract the faulty injector. Install the new injector with new copper washers and O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect all electrical connectors to the injectors and the ECU. Ensure the harness is routed correctly and secured with zip ties to prevent future chafing.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the battery negative terminal.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to clear the ENG 3223 fault code. Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and run the machine under load to verify the code does not return.
