New Holland ENG 3225 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Bank2 Warning - Unclassifiable Error
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU/EDC) has detected an electrical anomaly on the Bank 2 injector circuit (cylinders 4, 5, and 6). The error is unclassifiable because the electrical signature does not perfectly match the parameters for a standard open load or a direct short circuit, but the capacitor bank or injector driver is still detecting a critical current/voltage irregularity.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- New Holland T8.xxx Series (T8.390, T8.410, T8.435)
- New Holland CR9090
- New Holland CX8080 Elevation
- New Holland CX8090 Elevation
Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the main engine wiring harness and the specific injector wiring harness for Bank 2 (cylinders 4, 5, and 6). Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or harness rub-throughs against the engine block or cylinder head.
Connector Check: Disconnect the harness at the EDC and at the valve cover pass-through connector. Check for pushed pins, corrosion, or oil intrusion (which can alter electrical resistance and trigger unclassifiable errors).
Ohm Test Injectors: Using a multimeter, test the resistance of the Bank 2 fuel injectors. Compare the resistance values against Bank 1. A failing injector solenoid can cause current spikes that trigger this code.
Isolate the Fault: If the external wiring tests good, the issue may be internal to the valve cover (internal injector harness) or an internal failure of the EDC's Bank 2 capacitor/driver.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical arcing or ECU damage.
Access the Injectors
Remove the engine valve cover. On FPT engines, this usually requires removing the rocker arms and the high-pressure fuel inlet tubes.
Remove the Harness
Disconnect the internal injector wiring harness connectors from the Bank 2 injectors.
Replace the Faulty Component
If an injector failed the Ohm test, extract the bad Bosch/FPT injector and install a new one with new sealing washers and O-rings. If the harness is brittle or tested faulty, install a new internal injector wiring harness.
Reassembly
Reinstall the high-pressure fuel tubes (always torque to OEM spec to prevent leaks), rocker arms, and the valve cover.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Connect the New Holland EST (Electronic Service Tool) diagnostic software to clear the inactive ENG 3225 fault code.
Test Run
Start the engine and monitor the EST data logger to ensure Bank 2 injector current levels are stable and the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(5)Fuel Injector Wiring Harness
OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact engine displacement (e.g., FPT 6.7L vs 12.9L).
Bosch Common Rail Fuel Injector
0445120044OEM part numbers vary by engine.
CNH Fuel Injector
F5HF/F5BFSpecific injectors.
Injector sealing washers and O-rings
Always replace the injector sealing washers and O-rings when replacing an injector.
Engine Control Unit (EDC)
If the harness and injectors are perfectly fine, the EDC itself may require replacement or remanufacturing due to a burnt internal driver.
