New Holland ENG 3226 – Engine Control Unit (EDC / Engine ECU): Messages SRA2EDC

Communication timeout, incorrect data length, or control failure regarding the SRA2EDC CAN message sent from the eVGT Smart Remote Actuator to the Engine Control Unit.

   Check the wiring harness and connectors between the eVGT actuator and the Engine ECU for corrosion, moisture, backed-out pins, or chafing.

   Verify that the eVGT actuator is receiving proper supply voltage and has a solid ground connection.

   Test the CAN lines (CAN High / CAN Low) for open circuits, short circuits to ground, or short circuits to positive. Verify the CAN network termination resistance (typically 60 ohms with the battery disconnected).

   Inspect the turbocharger's VGT control mechanism for carbon deposits or soot buildup that can cause the mechanical vanes to bind.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Inspect and Clean

   Disconnect the eVGT actuator plug. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and ensure no pins are bent.

   Test Harness

   Using a multimeter, perform a continuity check on the CAN wires from the actuator harness back to the Engine ECU pins. Repair any breaks or shorts in the wiring harness.

   Check VGT Movement

   Disconnect the actuator arm from the turbocharger linkage. Move the linkage by hand; it should move smoothly without binding. If it is seized or highly restricted due to carbon buildup, the turbocharger must be removed and cleaned, or replaced.

   Replace Actuator

   If the wiring is verified as good, the CAN configuration is correct, and the mechanical linkage moves freely, the eVGT Smart Remote Actuator has suffered an internal electrical failure and must be replaced.

   Calibrate and Clear

   Reassemble all components, reconnect the battery, and connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Clear the inactive fault codes and run the turbocharger actuator initialization/calibration procedure if required by the specific engine manual.
