ENG 3233

New Holland ENG 3233 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Injection Processor Error - Test Mode

Issue description

An internal logic or hardware failure within the engine controller. The microprocessor responsible for managing fuel injection is either stuck in a factory/diagnostic 'Test Mode' or is incorrectly reporting this state, which prevents normal fuel injection operation and communication.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • T9 Series
  • CR9090
  • CX8080
  • CX8090
  • B110B
  • WE150
  • WE170
  • WE170C

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as New Holland EST or Jaltest) to confirm ENG 3233 is active and not a stored historical code.

  2. Verify the main power supply and ground circuits to the ECM under load. Check the battery, alternator output, and ECM harness connectors for corrosion or loose pins, as severe voltage drops or spikes can trigger internal processor errors.

  3. Attempt to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If the code immediately returns, check if there is an OEM software update available that addresses logic errors.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Remove the ECM

Locate the Bosch EDC7 ECM on the side of the engine block. Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors and unbolt the module.

  3. Repair or Replace

Option A (Repair/Clone): Send the faulty ECM to a specialized module repair service (e.g., Injectronics, ECU Connection) that handles Bosch EDC7UC31 units. They can often extract the original software and clone it to a remanufactured unit. Option B (Replace): Install a new or remanufactured ECM.

  4. Programming

If installing a new/blank ECM, connect your diagnostic tool and flash the module with the correct software payload for the specific machine model.

  5. Calibration

Perform necessary injector coding and engine calibrations via the diagnostic tool.

  6. Verification

Start the engine and run tests to confirm the fault code does not return.
