New Holland ENG 3236 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Injector: Number of Injections Limited by Quantity Balance

This fault indicates that the number of fuel injections being commanded is greater than the normal number of injections released for the current engine speed. The system is limiting the injections to maintain a quantity balance. The fault will typically self-correct when the number of injections falls back into the acceptable range for the current engine speed.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port

   Verify engine speed sensor readings and fuel injection parameters to ensure they are reading accurately

   Check for any accompanying fault codes, particularly ENG 3237 (Number of Injections Limited by Software) or engine speed/timing codes, which could indicate a sensor failure rather than an ECU software glitch

   Clear the code and operate the machine to see if the fault returns, as it may be a transient error

   Re-flash the Software

   Connect the CNH EST and re-flash the Engine Control Unit (ECU) with the latest software/calibration file from the manufacturer. This resolves the software's inability to balance the injection quantity against the engine speed.

   Run the engine through its normal operating RPM range to verify the code does not return.

   Replace the ECU

   If re-flashing the software does not correct the fault, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.
