New Holland ENG 3237 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Injector: Number of Injections Limited by Software

Issue description

The desired number of fuel injections requested by the engine is greater than the maximum number of injections the system can physically perform per cycle. The limitation is enforced by the software as a protective measure, and it is directly dependent on low battery voltage or insufficient power supply to the injector booster banks required for energizing the injectors.

Check the cause

  1. Check Battery Voltage: Verify the resting and running voltage of the battery. The software limits injections when the voltage drops too low to support the electrical load of the injectors.

  2. Check Booster Bank Power Supply: Inspect the power supply circuits to the injector booster banks on the engine harness.

  3. Check for Related Fault Codes: Scan the ECM for other active fault codes related to power supply, battery voltage, or booster banks, as these will often trigger the 3237 code as a secondary symptom.

Repair steps

  1. Charge and Retest

    If the battery voltage is found to be low during diagnostics, place the battery on a charger. Once fully charged, recheck the system voltage and test machine operation.

  2. Replace Battery

    If the battery fails a load test or does not hold a charge after being placed on a charger, replace the battery.

  3. Resolve Electrical Supply Issues

    If the battery is healthy but the power supply to the booster banks is still insufficient, trace the engine wiring harness to resolve any shorts, breaks, or corrosion. Resolve any other electrical fault codes present.

  4. Clear Codes

    Use the Electronic Service Tool (EASy tool) to clear the fault codes from the ECM.

  5. Verify Repair

    Start and operate the machine to confirm that fault code 3237 does not return.
