New Holland ENG 3239 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): EDC EEPROM - Read Operation Failure
Issue description
An internal hardware or memory failure within the engine's controller where the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) or Engine Control Module (ECM) is unable to read data from its internal Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM).
Applies to these machines
6 machines- L220
- SR175
- B90B
- B100B
- PUMA
- TL series
Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool, clear the DTCs, and cycle the machine's key power (turn off, wait, turn back on)
Verify if the code returns immediately upon key-on, which confirms the ECM has a hard internal failure and cannot read its base programming
Inspect the electrical system, battery voltage, and ECM harness for loose connections, frayed insulation, or signs of voltage spikes/shorts that could corrupt EEPROM data
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing the electrical system to prevent further damage.
Remove the ECM
Locate the Engine Control Module (EDC/ECM) on the engine block. Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the module.
Dismount
Remove the mounting hardware and remove the faulty ECM.
Install Replacement
Mount the new, remanufactured, or repaired ECM and secure the hardware.
Reconnect
Reconnect the wiring harness connectors and the negative battery cable.
Program the ECM
Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to flash the ECM with the correct software, calibration files, and injector trim codes specific to the machine's serial number.
Test
Clear any residual fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
