New Holland ENG 3241 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): EDC EEPROM - Default Value Used
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an internal error regarding its Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). The ECU is unable to read the stored operational parameters because the data is invalid, corrupted, or unreadable, causing it to revert to using pre-programmed default substitute values.
Applies to these machines

Check the cause
Cycle the Ignition: Turn the machine off, wait for the ECU to fully power down, and turn the key back on. If the EEPROM operates correctly on the next power cycle, the fault should reset immediately.
Check Battery and Grounds: Verify the battery is fully charged and inspect the main ECU ground connections, as voltage drops or spikes can corrupt EEPROM data.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for related internal ECU codes, such as 3239 (ECM EEPROM - Read Operation Failure) or 3240 (ECM EEPROM - Write Operation Failure).
Verify Recent Service History: Determine if the ECU was recently flashed or if the machine was jump-started, as an interrupted programming event is a primary cause of this code.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Clear and Retest
Attempt to clear the fault code. Cycle the key and run the engine to see if the code returns.
Reflash the ECU
If the code remains active, use the CNH EST to reflash the Engine Control Unit with the latest software dataset. Ensure the machine is connected to a stable battery maintainer during this process, as voltage drops will permanently brick the module.
Replace the ECU
If the ECU will not accept the flash, or if the 3241 code immediately returns after a successful flash, the internal EEPROM is physically damaged. The Engine Control Unit must be replaced.
Program the New ECU
Install the new ECU. Using the CNH EST, program the blank module with the correct software for your specific machine and manually input the injector trim codes (IMA codes) printed on the top of the fuel injectors.
