New Holland ENG 3247 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Shutoff Paths During Initialization - Supply Voltage Too High

When the machine is keyed on and the control module runs its initial self-check (initialization), the internal safety shutoff circuit detects that the incoming supply voltage exceeds the maximum allowable threshold.

   Measure the battery voltage with the machine off and while running to ensure the alternator voltage regulator has not failed (overcharge condition).

   Inspect the main 89-way connector at the Engine ECU for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge a high-voltage circuit to a low-voltage sensor reference pin.

   Check the main power supply lines and ground straps to the ECU (a floating ground can cause the ECU to misinterpret incoming supply voltage).

   Probe the ECU power supply harness to ensure it is not shorted to a higher voltage source.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery disconnect switch or remove the negative battery cable.

   Verify External Voltage

   If the alternator or voltage regulator was found to be overcharging during diagnostics, replace the faulty charging component and clear the codes.

   Repair Wiring

   If the ECU connector is corroded or damaged, splice in a replacement ECU harness repair loom (e.g., Bosch 89-way pigtail).

   Replace or Repair the ECU

   If the external voltage is perfectly within spec and the wiring is intact, remove the faulty Engine ECU and install a replacement. Program the new or remanufactured ECU using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or use a bench-cloning service.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect battery power, turn the key to the ON position to allow the new ECU to initialize, and verify that code ENG 3247 does not return.
