New Holland ENG 3249 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): TPU Monitoring - Time Deviation between TPU and System Not Plausible

The Time Processing Unit (TPU)—a micro-controller subsystem inside the engine computer responsible for processing engine timing and crank/cam signals—has detected an internal timing deviation or clock synchronization failure between itself and the main system processor.

   Connect approved diagnostic equipment (e.g., CNH Electronic Service Tool - EST) and clear the error code.

   Run the machine under normal operating conditions to see if the fault returns.

   Verify battery voltage, grounds, and wiring harness integrity to the ECU, as severe voltage drops or spikes can sometimes cause processor sync errors.

   Software Update

   Attempt to re-flash the engine controller by downloading the correct, most up-to-date level of software (Dataset/Firmware) using the CNH EST tool.

   Retest the Machine

   Run the machine again.

   Replace the Controller

   If the fault re-occurs after the software update, the internal hardware of the ECU (the TPU) is permanently defective. You must remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM).

   Programming

   The new or replacement ECU must be programmed with the correct dataset for the specific engine serial number, or the data must be cloned from the original unit, as these modules are locked to the vehicle's electronic/immobilizer system.
