New Holland ENG 3253 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC: ADC Monitoring - Reference Voltage Too High
Issue description
The Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) inside the engine controller monitors the internal 5-volt reference circuit, which is used to power various engine sensors. This code is logged when the controller detects that this 5V reference voltage has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold, indicating either a severe short-to-voltage in the sensor harness or an internal hardware failure within the controller's power supply.

Check the cause
Inspect the main 89-way and 36-way connectors at the EDC7 module for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins. Clean female pins by installing and removing them.
Test the grounding circuits for the engine controller, as a bad ground can cause reference voltages to float high.
Turn the ignition ON and probe the 5V reference pins on the EDC connector to ground to verify the actual voltage being outputted to the sensors.
Disconnect the 5V engine sensors (e.g., fuel rail pressure, boost pressure) one by one to see if a shorted sensor or a short-to-battery in the sensor wiring harness is back-feeding voltage into the EDC.
Repair steps
Harness Repair
If a short-to-voltage or poor ground is found in the wiring harness during diagnosis, repair the affected wires or replace the damaged connector pigtail. Clear the codes and retest.
Software Update
If the wiring is intact, CNH service manuals recommend updating the ECU software (reflashing the EDC) as a first step for ADC monitoring errors, as it can sometimes be a software logic glitch.
Replace the EDC
If the software update does not resolve the issue, the internal 5V power supply of the EDC is permanently damaged. You must remove and replace the Engine Control Module.
Programming/Calibration
Install the new EDC7 module. The replacement unit must be programmed with the correct dataset/software variant for the specific machine, and the immobilizer must be synced. If replacing the EDC, you may also need to perform an EDC Valve Calibration (H8 procedure) depending on the machine.
