Issue description

An internal processing failure within the engine's control module where the Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) has experienced a 'Queue Error', meaning the internal processing queue for signal conversions has timed out, failed, or become corrupted, preventing the controller from accurately reading engine sensor data.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the machine's system voltage is stable, as spikes or drops in voltage can cause the ADC monitoring queue to crash.

  2. Inspect the main wiring harness connectors at the EDC/ECM for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion.

  3. Ensure the main ECM ground strap is clean and tight.

  4. Check for accompanying ADC-related codes (e.g., 3253, 3254, or 3255); if multiple ADC codes are present, a shorted 5V reference sensor on the engine harness could be pulling down the internal circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

    Clear the fault codes using the EASy diagnostic tool (or equivalent CNH diagnostic software). Cycle the key and run the engine to see if the code is an active, hard fault or a stored intermittent glitch.

  2. Software Update

    If the code returns, connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Check if there is a newer software/dataset calibration available for the EDC. Flash the module with the latest software, as firmware bugs can cause queue errors.

  3. Isolate the Harness

    Disconnect the engine sensor harness from the EDC. Turn the key ON. If the 3256 code changes to a series of 'Open Circuit' codes but the ADC Queue Error goes away, a shorted sensor/wire is causing the internal fault. If the 3256 code remains active with the harness unplugged, the module is internally defective.

  4. Replace the EDC/ECM

    If the software update fails to resolve the issue and the wiring is sound, the EDC has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
