Check the cause
Locate the starter relay in the main fuse/relay box and inspect the socket pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or loose connections
Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the Engine ECU (low-side driver pin) and the starter relay socket for broken wires or chafing (Open Load Check)
Test the starter relay coil by measuring the resistance across the relay coil pins. Infinite resistance indicates the relay has failed internally
Verify that battery voltage (high-side power) is reaching the relay when the ignition is turned to the start position, and ensure the ECU is properly grounding the low side
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorts while working on the electrical system.
Access the Relay Panel
Open the electrical panel/fuse box to access the starter relay.
Replace or Repair
If the diagnostic tests proved the relay coil is open, replace the starter relay with a new OEM unit. If the relay is good but the wiring is broken, repair the break in the harness between the ECU and the relay socket using appropriate weather-sealed connectors.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reinstall the relay, reconnect the battery, and turn the ignition on. Use a diagnostic service tool to clear the ENG 3260 fault code, or cycle the key to see if the ECU self-clears the inactive code.
Test Operation
Attempt to crank the engine to verify the starter engages and the code does not return.
