New Holland ENG 3271 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Fuel Low Pressure Sensor - (via CAN) No Signal
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) is not receiving a valid signal from the fuel low-pressure sensor over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, typically indicating an electrical communication failure (wiring, connector, or a dead sensor) rather than a mechanical drop in fuel pressure.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- T8.xxx Series
- CR9090
- CX8080 Elevation
- CX8090 Elevation
- Magnum Series (235-340)
Check the cause
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or FPT EASy diagnostic tool to verify that DTC 3271 is active.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the fuel low-pressure sensor and the ECM. Look for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose pins, specifically on the CAN communication lines.
Install a compound test gauge (e.g., CNH part number 380100056) at the inlet of the low-pressure pump (after the primary filter) to verify physical fuel pressure. Normal low-side fuel pressure should be between 0.276 - 0.414 bar (4.0 - 6.0 psi).
Inspect the fuel pre-filter, primary fuel filter, and fuel tank for debris or air ingress that could cause secondary pressure issues.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Inspect/Repair Wiring
Trace the CAN bus wiring from the fuel low-pressure sensor to the EDC/ECM. Repair any broken wires or clean corroded connector pins.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring harness and CAN bus communication lines test good (continuity and proper voltage are present), the sensor's internal CAN node has likely failed. Remove and replace the Fuel Low Pressure Sensor.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use the CNH EST / EASy diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 3271 fault code.
Validation
Start the engine and allow it to idle. Monitor the fuel low-pressure sensor reading on the diagnostic tool to ensure it matches the physical gauge reading and that the fault code does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Fuel Low Pressure Sensor
OEM part numbers vary strictly by the specific FPT engine displacement and model year; refer to the CNH parts catalog for your specific engine serial number.
Diagnostic Test Gauge
380100056Compound gauge used for manual low-pressure fuel testing.
Fuel Filters
Required if restriction is found. NAPA 3271 / FILTRON PP 971 are common cross-references, though fitment depends on the exact machine.
