ENG 3273

New Holland ENG 3273 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel Low Pressure Sensor - Signal Below Range Min.

Issue description

This code indicates that the voltage signal coming from the low-pressure fuel sensor has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold programmed into the computer. Because it is a Signal Below Range Min error, this is almost always an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a dead sensor) rather than a mechanical indication of actual low fuel pressure.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series
  • New Holland CR9090
  • New Holland CX8080 Elevation
  • New Holland CX8090 Elevation

Check the cause

  1. Locate the Fuel Low Pressure Sensor and inspect the electrical connector and wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion.

  2. Disconnect the sensor, turn the key to ON, and use a multimeter to verify the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) from the ECM and has a solid ground.

  3. Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the ECM harness for an open circuit or a short to ground.

  4. If the wiring harness is intact, reference voltage is present, and ground is good, the sensor itself has failed internally and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate and Clean

Locate the Fuel Low Pressure Sensor. Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor with brake parts cleaner to prevent dirt or debris from entering the open fuel system.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Place a rag beneath the sensor to catch residual diesel fuel. Use a wrench to carefully unscrew and remove the faulty sensor.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Thread the new sensor into the housing by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the OEM torque specification.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely into place.

  7. Prime the System

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition key to the ON position for 30-60 seconds to allow the electric lift pump to prime the fuel system and purge any air.

  8. Clear Codes and Test

Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or an equivalent diagnostic scanner to clear the ENG 3273 fault code. Start the engine, verify that the code does not return, and check the new sensor for fuel leaks.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Fuel Low Pressure Sensor (CNH / FPT)

Varies by specific engine model. Look up using the machine's specific Engine Serial Number (ESN). Ensure the replacement is an OEM FPT or Bosch sensor.
