New Holland ENG 3286 – Engine Control Unit (EDC / EDC7 / CNH EDC): Sensor Supply Voltage 3 - Low
Issue description
The engine controller provides three independent 5V reference voltage supplies for various engine sensors. Supply circuit 3 is specifically dedicated to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor. A "Low" reading indicates that the voltage on this 5V circuit has dropped below the acceptable limit, typically caused by a short to ground in the sensor, the wiring harness, or an internal failure within the engine controller.

Check the cause
Clear the error code using approved diagnostic equipment and run the machine under normal conditions to see if the code actively returns.
Check the machine's base battery voltage, as low system voltage can sometimes trigger false reference voltage faults.
Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and measure the voltage at the harness connector for Supply 3. If the voltage returns to a steady 5V, the sensor is internally shorted. If the voltage remains low, the issue is in the wiring or the EDC.
Inspect the engine wiring harness between the Rail Pressure Sensor and the EDC for chafing, pinched wires, or a short circuit to ground.
Repair steps
Sensor Replacement
If the diagnostic checks prove the sensor is pulling the 5V reference down, relieve the fuel system pressure, remove the old Rail Pressure Sensor from the common rail, and install the new sensor. Torque to OEM specifications and reset the ECU data for the rail pressure sensor using a diagnostic tool if required by the specific engine manual.
Harness Repair
If a short to ground is found in the wiring harness during testing, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the engine harness entirely.
EDC Replacement
If the sensor is unplugged, the wiring harness tests perfectly for continuity and lacks any shorts to ground, but the EDC is still failing to output 5V on circuit 3, the Engine Control Unit has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced and reprogrammed.
