New Holland ENG 3293 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Fuel Metering Unit: Maximum Positive Deviation of Rail Pressure Exceeded
Issue description
The actual fuel pressure in the common rail is deviating significantly from the target pressure commanded by the ECU. The Fuel Metering Unit is failing to regulate the fuel volume entering the high-pressure pump.

Check the cause
Check for a clogged primary or secondary fuel filter causing a fuel supply restriction
Verify the low-pressure fuel pump hydraulic circuit is delivering adequate pressure to the high-pressure pump
Check for leakage in the high-pressure system, including injector return rates and the rail pressure relief valve
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the Fuel Metering Unit (MeUn) for loose contacts, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery
Evaluate the high-pressure fuel pump for low efficiency or internal wear
Repair steps
Replace fuel filters
Start by replacing the fuel filters and bleeding the fuel system to rule out a simple low-pressure fuel restriction.
Inspect wiring
Disconnect the electrical connector at the Fuel Metering Unit (located on the high-pressure fuel pump). Clean the contacts and use a multimeter to verify proper voltage and ground signals from the EDC.
Inspect metering unit
Remove the Fuel Metering Unit. Inspect the tip and the pump housing for metal shavings. If metal debris is found, the high-pressure fuel pump is disintegrating; you will need to replace the pump, flush the fuel rail, and potentially replace the injectors.
Replace metering unit
If no debris is found, the solenoid inside the metering unit has likely failed. Replace the Fuel Metering Unit.
Reset system
Use the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the ENG 3293 fault code. Perform a test run while monitoring the 'Actual vs. Desired Fuel Rail Pressure' live data to ensure the new unit is regulating pressure correctly.
