New Holland ENG 3294 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / CNH EDC: Cylinder 1 Specific Errors - Signal Not Plausible

This fault code indicates an electrical or communication issue specifically related to the fuel injector on Cylinder 1. The engine control module is receiving an erratic, implausible, or out-of-range electrical signal from the Cylinder 1 injector solenoid circuit, meaning it cannot accurately verify the injector's mechanical response or electrical state.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 1 fuel injector. Look for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the Cylinder 1 injector connector. Check for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture inside the plug.

   Resistance Testing: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the Cylinder 1 injector solenoid terminals. Compare the reading to the OEM specification for your specific engine. An open circuit (infinite resistance) or a short indicates a failed injector solenoid.

   Harness Continuity: Check the continuity of the wiring from the injector connector back to the Engine ECU pins. Ensure there is no short to ground or short to battery voltage.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Injector

   Remove any engine covers, valve covers, or intake piping necessary to access the Cylinder 1 fuel injector (Cylinder 1 is typically at the front of the engine, closest to the cooling fan).

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring fault, repair the damaged section of the harness or splice in a new injector pigtail connector.

   Replace the Injector (If Applicable)

   If the wiring is intact but the injector failed the resistance test: Clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from entering the cylinder. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the injector and the fuel rail. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head. Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Install a new high-pressure fuel line (highly recommended, as these are often single-use crush fittings).

   Reassemble and Bleed

   Reconnect the electrical harness, reassemble the engine covers, and reconnect the battery. Prime the fuel system to bleed out any air.

   Clear Codes

   Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the ENG 3294 fault code and input the new injector's trim code (if required by the specific engine model). Test run the machine to verify the repair.
