New Holland ENG 3295 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Cylinder 2 Specific Errors - No Signal

Issue description

The engine's control module has lost communication with, or is not detecting an electrical signal from, the Cylinder 2 fuel injector solenoid or its circuit. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a short, a failed internal injector solenoid, or a damaged wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Use a diagnostic scan tool (such as the CNH EASy tool) to verify the code and check for related codes (e.g., 3296 Signal Low, 3298 Signal Not Plausible).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the ECM to the Cylinder 2 fuel injector for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

  3. Disconnect the injector harness and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.

  4. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) of the Cylinder 2 injector solenoid to determine if the internal coil is open or shorted.

  5. Perform a continuity test on the wiring harness from the injector connector back to the ECM pins to rule out a broken wire.

  6. Check the ECM supply voltage and battery voltage, as low system voltage can sometimes trigger false signal errors.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety and prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Clean area

    Clean the area around the valve cover and the fuel injectors thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the engine.

  3. Remove valve cover

    If the engine utilizes an under-cover injector harness, remove the valve cover to access the injectors and internal wiring.

  4. Disconnect connector

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 2 fuel injector.

  5. Replace harness

    If the harness is faulty: Remove the old injector wire harness and route the new harness, ensuring it is secured away from high-heat sources.

  6. Remove fuel line

    If the injector is faulty: Remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to Cylinder 2. Cap the rail and line fittings immediately to prevent contamination.

  7. Remove clamp

    Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt.

  8. Extract injector

    Carefully extract the Cylinder 2 fuel injector from the cylinder head.

  9. Clean bore

    Clean the injector bore and ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the bottom of the bore.

  10. Install injector

    Install the new fuel injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings.

  11. Reinstall clamp

    Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications.

  12. Reconnect fuel line

    Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec.

  13. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness to the injector.

  14. Reinstall valve cover

    Reinstall the valve cover (if removed) with a new gasket.

  15. Reconnect battery and prime

    Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system to remove air, and start the engine.

  16. Clear codes and test

    Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and test run the machine to verify the repair.
