New Holland ENG 3304 – Engine Controller (EDC7 / Engine ECU): Cylinder 4 Specific Errors - Signal Low

This fault code indicates a mechanical response fault or an electrical signal issue on the Cylinder 4 fuel injector circuit. The engine controller is detecting that the electrical signal to or from the Cylinder 4 injector is lower than expected, which typically points to an open circuit, high resistance in the wiring, or a failed injector solenoid.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU (EDC7) and the Cylinder 4 fuel injector for chafing, breaks, melted insulation, or shorts to ground.

   Disconnect the Cylinder 4 injector and the ECU connectors to check the pins for corrosion, moisture, bent pins, or loose connections.

   Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 4 injector solenoid with a multimeter to verify it is within the manufacturer's specified range.

   Swap the Cylinder 4 injector with the injector from another cylinder (e.g., Cylinder 3), clear the codes, and run the engine. If the fault code changes to the new cylinder, the injector is faulty. If the code remains ENG 3304, the issue is in the wiring harness or the Engine ECU.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine valve cover or necessary engine cowling to gain access to the Cylinder 4 fuel injector.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair or replace the damaged section of the injector wiring harness/pigtail. Clean any corroded connector pins with electrical contact cleaner.

   Replace the Injector

   If the injector failed the swap test or resistance test, remove the hold-down clamp and extract the faulty Cylinder 4 fuel injector. Install the new injector with new O-rings and copper sealing washers. Torque the hold-down bolt to OEM specifications.

   Reinstall the valve cover and any removed components. Reconnect the battery.

   Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the ENG 3304 fault code. Start the engine and verify that it runs smoothly without the code returning.
