New Holland ENG 3305 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC7 / EDC7UC31: Cylinder 4 BIP Search Failure - Too Many Unsuccessful Searches - Rail Pressure below Minimum Limit in Controlled Mode

If the ECU cannot detect the BIP (Beginning of Injection Period) for Cylinder 4 after multiple attempts, and the common rail fuel pressure simultaneously drops below the minimum required limit, it triggers this code. This typically indicates a massive internal fuel leak at the Cylinder 4 injector, a failed injector solenoid, or a severe wiring issue preventing the injector from firing correctly, which bleeds off the rail pressure.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the Cylinder 4 injector for chafing, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

   Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 4 injector solenoid to verify it is within OEM specifications.

   Perform an injector leak-off (return flow) test to measure the return fuel volume from the injectors; excessive return from Cylinder 4 confirms a blown injector.

   Verify that the fuel rail pressure sensor and the pressure relief valve are functioning correctly and not contributing to the pressure drop.

   Depressurize and Disconnect

   Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and allow the engine to cool. The common rail system operates at extreme pressures; ensure the system is fully depressurized before opening any lines.

   Access the Injectors

   Remove the engine valve cover or necessary top engine covers to access the fuel injectors.

   Disconnect Lines and Wiring

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 4 injector. Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the Cylinder 4 injector. Cap the rail fitting to prevent contamination.

   Remove the Injector

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

   Clean the Bore

   Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head, ensuring no carbon buildup or old copper washers are left behind.

   Install the New Injector

   Install the replacement injector equipped with a new copper sealing washer and O-ring.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line (it is highly recommended to use a new fuel line, as they are often single-use crush fittings) and torque to spec. Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Reinstall Covers

   Reinstall the valve cover and any other removed components.

   Bleed the System

   Reconnect the battery and prime/bleed the fuel system to remove air.

    ECU Programming

    Use a CNH diagnostic tool (EST) to enter the new injector's trim code (IQA code) into the Engine ECU. Clear the ENG 3305 fault code and test run the machine to verify rail pressure holds under load.
