New Holland ENG 3311 – EDC7 (Engine Control Unit): Cylinder 6 Specific Errors - No Signal

Issue description

The engine control module is not detecting an electrical signal or continuity from the fuel injector solenoid circuit on cylinder number 6. This condition typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a completely failed internal injector solenoid.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the electrical connector at the Cylinder 6 fuel injector (located at the rear of the engine block) for loose fitment, backed-out pins, or corrosion.

  2. Harness Check: Inspect the main engine wiring harness connecting the EDC7 ECU to the injectors for chafing, breaks, or heat damage.

  3. Resistance Test: Disconnect the Cylinder 6 injector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the injector solenoid pins. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit (failed injector).

  4. Continuity Test: Perform a continuity test on the wiring harness from the injector connector back to the ECU pins to verify if the fault is a broken wire in the harness.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

    Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Access injector

    Remove any engine covers, intake piping, or the valve cover necessary to access the Cylinder 6 fuel injector.

  3. Repair wiring

    If the diagnostic tests pointed to a wiring failure: Repair the broken wire or replace the injector wiring harness/housing.

  4. Clean area

    If the diagnostic tests pointed to a failed injector: Clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from falling into the cylinder.

  5. Disconnect fuel line

    Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line connected to the Cylinder 6 injector. Cap the fuel rail fitting immediately to prevent system contamination.

  6. Remove injector

    Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head.

  7. Clean bore

    Clean the injector bore thoroughly.

  8. Install new injector

    Install the new fuel injector. Crucial: You must use new O-rings and a new copper sealing washer at the tip.

  9. Reinstall components

    Reinstall the hold-down clamp and the high-pressure fuel line, torquing both to the OEM specifications found in your specific machine's service manual.

  10. Reconnect electrical connector

    Reconnect the electrical connector to the injector.

  11. Reassemble and bleed

    Reassemble any removed covers, reconnect the battery, and bleed the fuel system if required by the engine model.

  12. Clear code and test

    Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the ENG 3311 fault code, then run the engine to verify the code does not return and there are no fuel leaks.
