New Holland ENG 3326 – Engine Control Module (Engine ECU / EDC): Timeout of CAN Message ETC2 (Transmission)

There is a breakdown in communication on the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The Engine controller is expecting to receive the 'ETC2' (Electronic Transmission Controller 2) data message from the transmission system at a specific broadcast rate, but the message rate is either too low or timing out completely.

   Check the CAN network wiring between the Engine ECU and the Transmission Control Module. Look for physical damage, rubbing, or pinched wires.

   Test the CAN bus lines for open circuits (broken wires), short circuit to earth/ground, and short circuit to power supply.

   Inspect the harness connectors at both the Engine ECU and the Transmission controller for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.

   Check if the Transmission controller is powering up and communicating on the network at all (if other transmission codes like 14900 'Transmission module missing' are present, the TCU may be offline entirely).

   Disconnect Battery

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing ECU wiring.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the diagnostic tests reveal an open or shorted CAN wire, splice and repair the affected section of the CAN backbone or replace the damaged connector pins.

   Clean Connections

   Use electrical contact cleaner on the Engine ECU and TCU harness connectors. Apply dielectric grease to prevent moisture buildup.

   Replace Module

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly (showing standard 60-ohm CAN resistance) and the connectors are clean, the Transmission Control Module may have an internal fault preventing it from broadcasting the ETC2 message. Replace the TCU.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, cycle the key, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive ENG 3326 code. Run the machine to verify the code does not return.
