ENG 3361

New Holland ENG 3361 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): EDC EEPROM - General Error

Issue description

This code indicates an internal memory failure or corruption within the Engine Control Module's Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). The EEPROM is responsible for storing critical non-volatile data, such as engine calibration maps, injector adjustment values, and operational parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • L220
  • L225
  • L228
  • L328
  • C227
  • C232
  • C345
  • W50BTC
  • W60BTC
  • W70BTC
  • W80BTC
  • T4.75
  • T4.110
  • T5 Electro Command
  • SR130
  • SR160
  • SR175
  • SR200
  • TR310
  • TR340
  • L334

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and ground connections, as low voltage, voltage spikes, or sudden loss of unswitched 12-volt supply can cause EEPROM read/write errors. Load-test the battery.

  2. Inspect the main wiring harness connections to the EDC/ECM for bent pins, corrosion, water ingress, or loose grounds.

  3. Attempt to clear the DTC using a diagnostic tool and cycle the key to determine if it is a hard fault.

Repair steps

  1. Secure Power

Disconnect the machine's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent any further electrical spikes.

  2. Inspect the EDC/ECM

Locate the Bosch EDC controller (typically mounted on or near the engine). Disconnect the multi-pin connectors and inspect them thoroughly. Clean any corrosion with electrical contact cleaner and ensure the pins are straight.

  3. Reconnect and Retest

Reconnect the module, restore battery power, and turn the key to the ON position. Check if the ENG 3361 code is still active.

  4. Software Flash / Reprogramming

If the code persists, the EDC's EEPROM data is corrupted. A dealer technician must connect the electronic service tool (EST) to attempt a software re-flash or to rewrite the missing injector adjustment values.

  5. Module Replacement

If the EDC cannot be communicated with, fails the reprogramming process, or the EEPROM is physically damaged (hardware failure), the Engine Control Module must be replaced.
