ENG 3367

New Holland ENG 3367 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU / EDC7): Coolant Temperature Test Failure

Issue description

The system flags this when it detects a 'Bad Intelligent Device or Component,' meaning the sensor is providing implausible readings, failing its internal self-test, or experiencing an electrical fault.

Applies to these machines

  • T5
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM120
  • TM190
  • T4
  • CR9090
  • CX8080 Elevation
  • CX8090 Elevation
  • B95
  • L190
  • LM1440
  • T8.275
  • T8.300
  • T6000

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connection at the sensor for security, moisture intrusion, galvanic corrosion, or damaged pins.

  2. Test the sensor's electrical resistance to verify if it is within the specified OEM range for the current ambient temperature.

Repair steps

  1. Cool Down

Allow the engine to cool completely before attempting any repairs to avoid severe burns.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Safely relieve the cooling system pressure by carefully loosening the radiator/coolant reservoir cap.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical wiring harness from the existing coolant temperature sensor.

  4. Remove Sensor

Unthread the faulty sensor from the engine block or thermostat housing. Note: You will lose some coolant during this step, so have a catch pan ready.

  5. Install New Sensor

Thread in the new direct-replacement sensor. Many OEM sensors feature a sealed design to prevent moisture intrusion.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor, ensuring the connection is tight and secure.

  7. Refill Coolant

Top off the cooling system with the appropriate coolant to replace what was lost during removal, then run the engine to verify there are no leaks and that the temperature gauge reads accurately.
