ENG 3368

New Holland ENG 3368 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC: Info: Torque Limitation due to OBD Performance Limiter by Legislation (FPT Engine Code 19D)

Issue description

This is an informational code indicating that the engine control system has actively derated the engine (limited fueling and torque) to comply with environmental emissions legislation due to a primary failure in the emissions or aftertreatment system.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7 Series Tractors
  • New Holland T8 Series Tractors
  • New Holland CR Series Combines
  • CR9090
  • New Holland CX Series Combines
  • CX8080
  • CX8090
  • New Holland Wheel Loaders
  • W190B

Check the cause

  1. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and pull all active and stored codes from the Engine ECU to check for primary codes

  2. Identify the root cause by looking for accompanying emissions-related fault codes (e.g., DEF quality errors, NOx sensor failures, DEF dosing pump issues, or EGR valve malfunctions)

  3. Visually inspect the DEF fluid level and quality

  4. Check the DEF doser for crystallization

  5. Inspect the wiring harnesses for the NOx sensors and exhaust temperature sensors

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug the CNH EST into the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Read and Record Codes

Read all active fault codes in the EDC. You will see ENG 3368 alongside one or more primary fault codes.

  3. Diagnose the Primary Fault

Ignore code 3368 temporarily. Follow the OEM troubleshooting tree for the other active emissions code(s) found in step 2.

  4. Perform the Physical Repair

Replace the failed emissions component (e.g., swap out a faulty NOx sensor, replace a clogged DEF filter, or clean a crystallized DEF injector) as dictated by the primary code.

  5. Clear Codes and Reset

Use the CNH EST to clear all inactive fault codes.

  6. Perform System Verification

Depending on the primary repair, you may need to use the EST to perform a system reset (such as a DEF system prime/leak test or an SCR catalyst reset) to satisfy the OBD system that the emissions system is functioning again.

  7. Test Drive

Run the machine under load. Once the ECU verifies the emissions system is operating within legal parameters, the OBD Performance Limiter will lift, full torque will be restored, and code 3368 will clear.
