Issue description

This is an informational protection code indicating that the engine controller has intentionally reduced engine power (derated the torque) to prevent catastrophic mechanical damage. The system triggers this protection mode when it detects that the engine is operating outside of safe parameters—specifically, if the engine is overheating, over-revving (overspeed), or being subjected to excessive mechanical load.

Check the cause

  1. Check for primary fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST), specifically looking for coolant temperature sensor faults (e.g., code 3367) or fuel injection system errors

  2. Inspect the cooling system by checking the engine coolant level and visually inspecting the radiator, cooling fins, and prescreen for dirt, chaff, or debris blockages

  3. Inspect the engine fan belt for proper tension, slipping, or breakage

  4. Review operator habits to determine if the machine was being operated beyond its rated load capacity or if an overspeed condition occurred

Repair steps

  1. Clear Blockages

    If the engine is overheating due to poor airflow, thoroughly clean the radiator fins, oil cooler, and prescreens using compressed air or a pressure washer.

  2. Restore Coolant

    Top off the engine coolant to the appropriate level if it is low.

  3. Service the Fan Belt

    Adjust the fan belt tension. If the belt is glazed, cracked, or broken, remove and replace it.

  4. Replace Faulty Sensors

    If the physical engine temperature is normal but the ECU believes it is overheating, test the coolant temperature sensor. Replace the sensor if it is reading out of range or shorted.

  5. Clear the Code

    Once the mechanical cooling issue or sensor fault is resolved, connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive fault codes.

  6. Test Run

    Operate the machine under a normal working load while monitoring engine temperature and RPM to verify that the torque limitation has been lifted and the code does not return.
