New Holland ENG 3371 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Info: Torque Limitation due to Fuel Quantity Limitation because of Injection System Errors
Issue description
An informational code indicating that the engine controller has intentionally placed the machine into a derated state (limiting engine torque and fuel quantity) to protect the engine. This derate is triggered because the system has detected a primary, underlying fault within the fuel injection system.
Applies to these machines
12 machines- T6
- T7
- T8.xxx series
- T9 series
- TS-A series
- Workmaster 45/55
- CR9090
- CX8080
- CX8090 Elevation
- W190B
- 721F-921F loaders
- B90 backhoes
Check the cause
Scan for primary codes using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to identify the root injection system fault (e.g., injector failures, rail pressure drops)
Inspect the fuel water separator for water or contamination that could restrict fuel supply
Monitor actual vs. desired fuel rail pressure during cranking and operation to test the high-pressure pump, fuel metering unit, or rail pressure sensor
Check injector harnesses for shorts to ground or battery and perform a leak-off test
Repair steps
Identify the Root Cause
Based on the primary fault codes found alongside 3371, pinpoint the failing component (e.g., clogged filter, bad injector, faulty rail pressure sensor).
Relieve Fuel System Pressure
Before opening the high-pressure common rail system, ensure the engine is off and pressure has safely dissipated.
Replace the Faulty Component
If filters are clogged: Drain the water separator and replace the fuel filters. If the rail pressure sensor is faulty: Remove and replace the sensor (do not reuse old sensors as they can leak). If an injector is faulty: Remove the defective injector and install the replacement, then use the diagnostic tool to program the new 7-digit IMA calibration code printed on the injector body into the Engine ECU.
Prime the Fuel System
Bleed the fuel system to remove any trapped air.
Clear Codes and Test
Use the EST to clear all Engine ECU fault codes. Start the engine and verify that the primary injection error does not return. Once resolved, the ENG 3371 Torque Limitation code will automatically clear and full engine power will be restored.
