New Holland ENG 3382 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Fan Control Solenoid Short To 12Vr

The engine controller has detected a short circuit to a 12-volt power source on the electrical circuit that commands the engine cooling fan's control solenoid.

• New Holland T8 Series (T8.275, T8.295, T8.300, T8.320, T8.330, T8.360, T8.380, T8.390, T8.435)
• New Holland CR Series (CR6090, CR7090, CR8080, CR9090)
• New Holland CX Series (CX8080, CX8090)

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the Vistronic fan control solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to a 12V power source.

   Disconnect the fan control solenoid connector. Turn the key ON and use a multimeter to check the control wire for voltage. If 12V is present on the control ground/signal side, there is a short to power in the harness.

   Measure the internal resistance of the fan control solenoid at the clutch. An internal failure within the solenoid can bridge the 12V supply to the control circuit.

   Check the Engine ECU connectors for bent pins, corrosion, or water intrusion that could bridge a 12V pin to the fan control pin.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the batteries. Never disconnect the batteries while the engine is running.

   Gain Access

   Depending on the model, you may need to remove or reposition the cooling package, condenser, or air lines to access the engine cooling fan. Cap or plug all disconnected lines.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Locate and remove the bolt securing the fan harness clamp, then disconnect the electrical connector to the Vistronic fan drive.

   Remove the Fan Drive

   Remove the six nuts and washers securing the fan drive to the pulley.

   Extract the Assembly

   Carefully remove the fan and drive assembly, ensuring you do not damage the radiator or cooling package fins.

   Install New Component

   Transfer the fan blades to the new electronically-controlled fan clutch (if not sold as a complete assembly). Mount the new assembly to the pulley and torque the nuts to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness, reinstall the cooling package components, and refill the cooling system slowly through the deaeration tank to allow air to vent.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the batteries, turn the key on, and clear the ENG 3382 fault code using a diagnostic tool. Run the engine to verify proper fan engagement.
