New Holland ENG 341 – Engine Control Module (ECM): All data written during powerdown cycle was lost (checksum error)
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) failed to properly save its operating data to its non-volatile memory (EEPROM) during the last engine shutdown sequence, caused by premature power interruption or internal memory failure.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- T8 Series
- T9 Series
- CR9090
- CX8080
- CX8090
- L220
- L225
- C232
Check the cause
Verify if the operator is turning off the master battery disconnect switch immediately after turning off the ignition key (cutting power too early is the most common cause)
Connect an electronic service tool to determine if the code is active or inactive
Inspect the main battery terminals, ECM ground connections, and unswitched power supply lines for corrosion, looseness, or broken wires
Test the ECU Main Power Relay and its associated fuses in the power distribution box to ensure it is not opening too early or suffering from an internal short/open circuit
Repair steps
Clear the Code
If the fault was caused by an operator turning off the battery isolator too quickly, simply clear the inactive fault code using your electronic service tool. Educate the operator to wait at least 60 seconds after key-off before throwing the battery disconnect switch.
Repair Wiring/Connections
If the code returns or is active, disconnect the battery and clean all battery posts and ECM ground terminals. Repair any damaged wires on the unswitched battery supply circuit leading to the ECM.
Replace the Main Relay
If the unswitched power is dropping out due to a faulty relay, replace the ECU Main Power Relay.
Replace/Reflash the ECM
If the wiring, grounds, and relays are all in good condition but the code remains active, the ECM has suffered a critical internal hardware failure (EEPROM failure). The Engine Control Module will need to be replaced or sent out for remanufacturing/reflashing.
Parts you might need
(3)ECU Main Power Relay
8429743212V, 70A relay commonly used for the ECU main power on New Holland equipment
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Exact OEM part number varies heavily depending on the specific machine model, engine displacement, and emissions tier. Must be ordered using the machine's specific Engine Serial Number
ECM Power/Unswitched Fuses
Usually 5A to 30A blade fuses located in the cab or engine compartment fuse box, depending on the model
