New Holland ENG 3410 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Governor Valve: Permanent Governor Deviation for Valve

The negative limit of the governor deviation for the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve has been exceeded. The engine controller is commanding the EGR valve to move to a specific position, but the desired position cannot be reached. This is typically caused by the EGR valve sticking/binding internally due to heavy soot and carbon buildup, or a failure of the EGR valve position sensor.

   Verify that the wiring harness and connectors leading to the EGR valve actuator are free of damage, corrosion, or loose pins

   Check for related active codes indicating an open load error, short circuit to battery, or over-temperature error for the H-bridge wiring harness (indicates electrical short rather than mechanical bind)

   Inspect the EGR valve for physical binding inside the assembly to ensure it is not jammed or stuck on a mechanical stop

   Ensure the EGR valve position sensor is not mismatched or sending a faulty signal back to the ECU

   Turn off the engine, ensure all electrical power is disconnected, and allow the exhaust system to cool.

   Locate the EGR valve assembly on the engine.

   Note: On some F5H engines, the valve cover is a robust design holding the common rail; gaining clearance to the EGR system may require removing injector lines and slightly raising the valve cover.

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the EGR valve actuator.

   Unbolt and remove the EGR valve from the manifold.

   Inspect the valve for heavy carbon/soot buildup.

   If the valve is heavily jammed and cannot be thoroughly cleaned to restore smooth mechanical operation, or if the electronic actuator/sensor has failed, the assembly must be replaced.

   Install the new EGR valve/actuator assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Use the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes and verify that the EGR valve responds correctly to ECU commands without deviation.
