New Holland ENG 3420 – Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): CAN Bus Communication - CAN Bus Received Frames: DFC of Auxiliary Engine Shutdown Switch Message
Issue description
This fault code does not indicate an internal engine failure. Instead, it is an informational code indicating an external engine shut-off request. The engine control system received a specific CAN Bus message (BC2EDC2) from another module on the network, commanding the engine to shut down.

Check the cause
Check for other codes: Do not attempt to repair the engine. Check the Body Computer and other modules for active fault codes that would have initiated the shutdown request.
Check the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch: Verify if the machine's physical emergency stop / auxiliary shutdown switch was manually pressed, or if it is physically damaged.
Inspect CAN Bus Integrity: If no switch was pressed, check the CAN Bus wiring between the Body Computer and the ECM for a defective CAN controller, disconnected cables, or short circuits.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect a diagnostic service tool (e.g., New Holland Electronic Service Tool) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Perform network scan
Perform a full network scan to read all active and stored fault codes across all modules, paying special attention to the Body Computer.
Locate root cause code
Locate the root cause code (Fid_EngShOff) that triggered the shutdown request.
Inspect auxiliary shutdown switch
If the machine is equipped with an auxiliary engine shutdown switch (E-Stop), inspect the switch and its wiring harness. Test the switch for internal shorts or open circuits using a multimeter.
Inspect CAN Bus lines
If the switch is functioning correctly, inspect the CAN Bus communication lines between the Body Computer and the Engine VCM/ECM. Check for disconnected cables, broken wires, or short circuits.
Repair or replace components
Repair or replace any damaged wiring harnesses, or replace the defective auxiliary shutdown switch if it is internally shorted.
Clear codes and verify
Clear the fault codes from all modules and cycle the key to verify the code does not return and the engine runs normally.
