New Holland ENG 3431 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) inducement most severe derating level

The ECU has detected a fault with the EGR valve (specifically, the 'EGR valve blocked' group of faults) and has triggered inducement level 3. This happens when the timer for an active EGR fault exceeds 4 hours without being fixed. As a result, the machine enters a 'creep mode' with a strongly reduced maximum vehicle speed and severe torque reduction.

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check for other active fault codes relating to the EGR valve.

   If other EGR valve fault codes are present, troubleshoot and resolve those specific active EGR fault codes first (code 3431 is a consequence code).

   If no other fault codes are present, clear the fault code and test the machine to see if it returns, as the condition may have been intermittent or previously resolved.

   Turn the key switch OFF and allow the engine, radiator, and exhaust components to cool completely.

   Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate the EGR valve.

   It is mounted at the rear of the engine connected to the exhaust manifold.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the EGR valve actuator.

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the EGR valve to the EGR cooler and exhaust piping.

   Remove the old EGR valve and discard the old metal gaskets.

   Clean the mating surfaces on the EGR cooler and exhaust piping.

   Install the new EGR valve using new gaskets (Inlet and Outlet).

   Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and use the EST service tool to clear the fault codes and reset the EGR inducement timers.
