ENG 3565

New Holland ENG 3565 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) - EDC7, MD1CE101, or MD1CS069: Urea quality and urea warning level 1

Issue description

Fault code ENG 3565 is a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) inducement code indicating that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue) quality sensor has detected urea concentration dropping below acceptable thresholds (typically under 30 percent) or fluid contamination. This is commonly caused by DEF fluid degrading over time during periods of infrequent machine use. If left unaddressed, this Level 1 warning will escalate, eventually triggering an engine derate that limits engine speed and horsepower, locking the machine at idle.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4A
  • Tier 4B
  • Stage V
  • T6 Series
  • T6.180
  • T7 Series
  • T7.220-T7.270

  • 11.90X
  • 300 Series Skid Steers
  • Compact Track Loaders
  • Wheel Loaders

Check the cause

  1. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm ENG 3565 is active and check the Urea Quality Sensor Concentration monitoring parameters.

  2. Manually inspect the DEF fluid for physical contamination, water dilution, or crystallization, and test the concentration using a DEF refractometer.

  3. Inspect the SCR wiring harness and connectors at the DEF tank sending unit for corrosion, damage, or intermittent sensor communication stability.

  4. Verify stable DEF pump pressure and inspect the SCR injector for crystallization buildup to rule out flow restrictions.

Repair steps

  1. Drain the DEF tank

If the DEF concentration is confirmed to be low or degraded, completely drain the AdBlue/DEF tank.

  2. Flush and clean system

If contamination or heavy crystallization is present, clean the tank and the DEF/Denoxtronic module.

  3. Replace DEF quality sensor

If the fluid tests perfectly fine but the ECU still reads poor quality, replace the DEF Quality Sensor (often integrated into the tank header/sending unit).

  4. Refill DEF tank

Refill the tank with fresh, high-quality DEF (AdBlue).

  5. Reset ECU and clear codes

Connect the CNH EST diagnostic software to reset the engine restart counter / SCR inducement derate and clear the fault codes. Run the machine under a hard load for up to an hour if needed for the computer to recognize the new fluid.
