New Holland ENG 3569 – Engine ECU: Urea quality and urea warning level 2
Issue description
This code indicates that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue) in the tank does not meet the required quality standard (typically a 32.5% urea concentration) or is contaminated. A 'Level 2' warning means the system has escalated the fault, which will typically trigger an engine derate (performance limitation) to comply with emissions regulations.

Check the cause
Test the DEF Fluid: Use a DEF refractometer to test the fluid currently in the tank. It must read exactly 32.5% urea concentration.
Inspect for Contamination: Visually inspect the DEF tank for dirt, debris, water, or diesel fuel cross-contamination (which is a common cause of sensor failure).
Inspect the Wiring: Check the wiring harness and the connector leading to the DEF quality sensor / DEF header unit for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
Check the DEF Filter: A clogged or severely degraded DEF filter can cause system pressure and quality reading anomalies.
Repair steps
Drain and Flush the Tank
If the DEF fluid tests poorly or shows signs of contamination, completely drain the DEF tank. Flush the tank with distilled water or fresh DEF to remove residual contaminants.
Replace the DEF Filter
Always replace the DEF filter when addressing fluid quality issues to protect the dosing pump and injector from damage.
Replace the DEF Quality Sensor / Header
If the fluid is perfectly clean and at the correct concentration but the code remains active, the DEF quality sensor (often integrated into the DEF header unit) has failed and must be replaced.
Refill the System
Refill the tank with fresh, unexpired, ISO 22241 certified DEF.
Clear Codes and Reset
Use a dealer-level diagnostic tool (or equivalent DTC eraser) to clear the ENG 3569 code from the Engine ECU. Perform an SCR system test or manual regeneration to verify the repair and remove the engine derate.
