ENG 3655

New Holland ENG 3655 – Engine ECU: Torque limitation, Engine protection: General report of the event of torque limitations

Issue description

Informational fault code indicating that the engine control system has intentionally limited engine torque (derated the engine) to protect it from severe damage. The torque limitation is a secondary symptom triggered by a primary fault elsewhere in the system.

Applies to these machines

  • CR9090
  • CX8080 Elevation
  • CX8090 Elevation
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • B90B
  • B100B
  • SR175

Check the cause

  1. Connect your CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or compatible diagnostic scanner

  2. Pull all active and stored fault codes from the Engine ECU

  3. Look for the primary fault codes that are causing the reduction in power (e.g., DPF restriction, engine overheating, low engine oil pressure, EGR system faults, or critical sensor failures)

Repair steps

  1. Identify the Root Cause

Review the list of active fault codes and identify the primary code(s) responsible for triggering the engine protection mode.

  2. Troubleshoot the Primary Fault

Follow the OEM diagnostic steps for the specific primary fault code(s) you found.

  3. Perform Repairs

Replace the faulty sensor, clear the DPF restriction, or repair the wiring issue as dictated by the primary fault.

  4. Clear Codes

Once the root cause is repaired, use the diagnostic tool to clear all fault codes.

  5. Verify Operation

Start the machine and run it under load. Verify that full engine power is restored and that code ENG 3655 does not return.
