New Holland ENG 3664 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): EGR Command Saturation Over Lower Threshold
Issue description
The negative limit of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve governor deviation has been exceeded. The engine control system is commanding the EGR valve to a specific position, but the desired position cannot be reached. This is most commonly caused by the EGR valve sticking/binding inside the assembly or a mismatched/faulty EGR valve position sensor.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the EGR valve to ensure they are free of damage, corrosion, or loose pins
Check the EGR valve assembly for internal binding or sticking caused by heavy carbon buildup
Verify the EGR valve position sensor to ensure it is not mismatched or sending faulty voltage signals
Repair steps
Disconnect the battery and locate the EGR valve on the engine.
Carefully inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors leading to the EGR valve.
Repair any damaged wires or replace broken connector pigtails.
Remove the EGR valve from the engine to inspect for mechanical binding.
Clean the EGR passages and the intake manifold to remove any carbon deposits that could impede valve movement.
Replace the EGR valve if it is permanently binding inside the assembly, or if the integrated position sensor has failed.
Install the new EGR valve (a direct bolt-in replacement), reconnect the wiring harness, and clear the fault codes from the ECU.
