New Holland ENG 3667 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): EGR Open Load Error for Power Stage
Issue description
The engine control system has detected an open load (an open circuit, infinite resistance, or broken connection) in the electrical circuit that drives the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- L213
- L216
- L220
- L230
- L316
- L318
- L320
- SR175
- B90B
- B100B
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the EGR valve actuator (specifically the 60-pin engine connector, pins A35 and A50) for disconnected plugs, broken wires, or backed-out pins.
Use a multimeter to test the EGR valve circuit for continuity to isolate whether the open load is in the harness or inside the actuator.
Test the EGR valve actuator itself to determine if the internal electronic control unit or motor has failed open.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect battery power before servicing the engine wiring.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or damaged connector in the EGR circuit, repair or replace the affected harness section.
Replace Component
If the wiring is intact but the EGR actuator has an internal open circuit, remove and replace the EGR valve/actuator assembly.
ECU Replacement
If the wiring is good and the fault persists after addressing the valve, the Engine Controller (ECU) itself may have a burnt-out power stage and will need to be replaced.
Restore Self-Learning Parameters
Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) and follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters. This resets the ECU data so it can learn the end-stops and resistance of the new EGR valve.
Clear Codes
Clear the inactive fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
