New Holland ENG 3680 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Injection cut off demand (ICO) for shut off coordinator

The engine controller has commanded a fuel injection cut-off to shut down the engine (or prevent it from starting). This is typically triggered by an overrun monitoring fault where the engine speed exceeds a safe threshold, or it is the result of an internal defect within the Engine Control Module itself. The Check Engine lamp will illuminate continuously, and the engine will not start.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic tester to the vehicle's diagnostic link connector (DLC), read the freeze frame data to determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary when the fault occurred, and clear the error code.

   Attempt to start the engine and operate the vehicle; if the engine starts and the code does not return, it may have been a temporary overrun anomaly.

   Check for other active codes related to engine overspeed, throttle position, or sensor supply voltages, as the shut-off coordinator is often triggered by a primary safety violation.

   If the code returns immediately upon clearing and the engine still will not start, confirm an internal ECM defect (1 trip detection logic).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the ECM

   Locate the Engine Control Module (typically mounted directly to the engine block via a heat exchanger with rubber vibration isolators). Disconnect the wiring harnesses and remove the module.

   Install the New ECM

   Mount the replacement ECM and reconnect the harnesses.

   Programming (Dealer Required)

   Use the CNH diagnostic tool to perform ECM Registration and Initialization. This includes flashing the correct engine injector code configuration and software for your specific machine.
