ENG 3699

New Holland ENG 3699 – ENGINE / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): EDC EEPROM: Error in EEPROM Block EEPData1 SD correction can not be calculated.

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an internal memory error within its EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory). Specifically, the 'EEPData1' block is corrupted or inaccessible, meaning the SD correction values cannot be calculated.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the battery and supply voltage to the ECU, as low supply voltage or sudden power loss can trigger EEPROM read/write errors.

  2. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port to check if the ECU communicates properly or registers as an 'Unknown ECU'.

  3. Attempt to clear the DTCs. If the code immediately returns upon cycling the key, the EEPROM error is permanent.

  4. Check the programming history to determine if the ECU was recently flashed, tuned, or interrupted during a software update.

Repair steps

  1. Reprogram the ECM

Using the CNH EST, attempt to re-flash the Engine Control Module with the correct factory software/dataset.

  2. ECU Repair/Cloning

If the ECU will not accept the flash or communication is lost, the unit must be removed. Send the EDC unit to a specialized ECU repair service to extract the immobilizer and injector data to clone onto a donor board.

  3. Replace the ECM

If the internal memory is physically damaged and cannot be repaired, replace the Engine Control Module.

  4. Post-Installation Calibration

If a new ECM is installed, it must be programmed with the correct machine software. Additionally, the 7-digit IMA calibration codes printed on each fuel injector must be programmed into the new ECU so that injection quantities are matched cylinder by cylinder.
