This fault code indicates that the actual fuel pressure inside the common rail has dropped below the minimum threshold required for the engine to operate. In modern common rail diesel engines, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) will not command the injectors to fire if the rail pressure is too low, resulting in a hard start, rough running, loss of power, or a complete no-start condition.

   Low-Pressure Fuel Supply: Check for fuel starvation. Ensure there is adequate fuel in the tank and that the low-pressure lift pump is functioning.

   Begin by replacing the fuel filters and water separator to rule out basic flow restrictions. Prime and bleed the low-pressure fuel system to ensure no air is trapped in the lines.

   Test the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)

   Disconnect the return line from the PRV on the fuel rail. Crank the engine. If fuel leaks from the valve during cranking or at idle, the valve has failed and must be replaced.

   Test the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor

   Using a diagnostic tool, monitor the live rail pressure data. If the sensor reads an erratic or impossible value (e.g., high pressure when the engine is off), replace the sensor.

   Perform an Injector Return Flow Test

   If the PRV and sensor are good, measure the return flow from the injectors. Replace any injectors that exceed the manufacturer's maximum return specification.
