ENG 3742

New Holland ENG 3742 – EDC: EDC - Power stages, Injector: Too many SPI errors during MoCSOP execution.

Issue description

This is an internal hardware or communication failure within the engine's computer. Specifically, the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) encountered too many communication errors while executing the Monitoring Concept Shut Off Path (MoCSOP) test for the fuel injector power stages. The ECU's internal safety monitoring has detected a fault in its own circuitry, meaning the module can no longer reliably control or monitor the fuel injectors.

Applies to these machines

  • T4
  • T5
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • CR9090
  • CX8080
  • CX8090 Elevation (Tier 4A)
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)

Check the cause

  1. Clear the code using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic tester to see if it was a transient software glitch

  2. Inspect the main wiring harness connectors at the EDC/ECM for water intrusion, bent pins, or corrosion, which can cause data corruption

  3. Verify stable battery voltage and clean ground connections to the engine block and EDC to rule out severe voltage drops triggering false internal errors

  4. Confirm internal failure: if the error is still present after checking power and clearing, the ECU internal threshold has been breached and the module must be exchanged

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the machine's battery (negative terminal first).

  2. Disconnect wiring harness

Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the EDC/ECM.

  3. Remove faulty EDC/ECM

Unbolt and remove the faulty EDC/ECM from its mounting bracket on the engine.

  4. Install replacement EDC/ECM

Install the replacement EDC/ECM and secure the mounting hardware.

  5. Reconnect wiring and battery

Reconnect the wiring harness connectors and the battery.

  6. Program the new EDC/ECM

Connect the New Holland EST laptop to flash the correct engine dataset, program the injector codes, and run the self-learning routines.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) Unit

Varies entirely by machine model and Engine Serial Number (ESN). You must look up the specific EDC part number in the CNH parts catalog using the machine's PIN/Serial Number.
