New Holland ENG 3746 – Engine ECU / EDC: EDC - Power stages, Injector: OS timed out in the shut off path test. Failure setting the alarm task period.
Issue description
Internal processing or timing error within the engine's computer. The Operating System (OS) of the controller timed out while running a diagnostic self-test on the shut-off path for the fuel injector power stages.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- L220 Skid Steer Loaders
- SR175 Skid Steer Loaders
- Tractors utilizing the F5C/F5H engines (such as the T4 and T5 series)
Check the cause
Verify the battery voltage and inspect the main ground connections to the EDC. Low or unstable voltage can cause the module's operating system to time out or fail internal self-tests.
Inspect the engine wiring harness leading to the fuel injectors. Look for chafing, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery voltage that could be interfering with the injector power stages.
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the DTC to determine if the timeout was an isolated, intermittent software glitch.
Repair steps
Inspect and Clean Connections
Disconnect the battery. Clean the battery terminals, chassis grounds, and the main harness connectors at the EDC. Reconnect and ensure they are secure.
Clear and Retest
Connect a compatible diagnostic scan tool, clear the ENG 3746 fault code, and cycle the key/run the engine to see if the code returns.
Software Update
If the code returns and no wiring faults are found, contact an authorized New Holland dealer. The EDC may require a software reflash/update to correct the OS timeout logic.
Module Replacement
If a software update is unavailable or does not resolve the issue, the internal power stages or processor of the EDC have failed, and the Engine Control Module must be replaced.
Parts you might need
(2)Engine Control Module (EDC) / ECU
Exact OEM part numbers for the EDC vary entirely based on the specific machine model, engine tier, and required software calibration. It must be ordered to the machine's specific PIN/Serial number.
Engine Wiring Harness / Injector Harness
Required only if physical shorting is found in the injector circuits.
