ENG 3756

New Holland ENG 3756 – ENGINE: EDC - Level 2 Monitoring: Diagnosis fault check to report the demand for normal mode due to an error in the PoI2 quantity.

Issue description

The engine's Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) system performs internal Level 2 monitoring of the fuel injection process. "PoI2" stands for Post Injection 2. The controller has detected an internal unplausibility or error regarding the calculated or commanded fuel quantity for the second post-injection event. Because of this internal calculation error, the ECU demands a fallback to "normal mode" or limits the injection path to protect the engine.

Applies to these machines

  • L220
  • L225
  • L230
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238

  • B100B

Check the cause

  1. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port

  2. Verify that ENG 3756 is active (physical wiring checks are not the primary diagnostic step as this is an internal calculation error)

  3. Check if there are any available software updates or patches for the engine controller

  4. Prepare to attempt a software flash ('Reload Engine Dataset') to see if it resolves the internal calculation error

Repair steps

  1. Reload Dataset

Using the CNH EST, flash the latest engine dataset to the EDC. Clear the codes and cycle the key. Run the engine to verify if the code returns.

  2. Replace EDC

If the fault persists, the EDC itself is deemed internally faulty and must be replaced. Disconnect the machine's battery.

  3. Locate EDC

Locate the Engine ECU/EDC on the engine block or in the engine bay compartment.

  4. Disconnect wiring

Carefully disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the EDC.

  5. Remove EDC

Unbolt the EDC from its mounting bracket and remove it.

  6. Install new EDC

Install the new EDC and torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec. Reconnect the wiring harnesses.

  7. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Program EDC

Connect the CNH EST. You must follow the appropriate service tool procedure to program the new controller with the correct engine dataset for your specific machine.

  9. Restore Parameters

Use the EST to "Restore Self Learning Parameters" so the new EDC can adapt to the engine's fuel system components.
