ENG 3762

New Holland ENG 3762 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: EDC - Level 2 Monitoring: Reported Over Voltage of Supply

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is monitoring the battery voltage supplied to it, and it has detected that the incoming voltage is above the maximum acceptable threshold.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the fault code is still active and present

  2. Measure the battery supply voltage at the ECU to see if it is genuinely exceeding normal operating limits (typically >14.5V - 15V on a 12V system)

  3. Test the alternator's output to check for a faulty voltage regulator, which is a primary cause of overcharging

  4. Inspect the wiring harness between the battery, alternator, and ECU for any shorts to power

Repair steps

  1. Alternator Replacement

If your multimeter shows the alternator is overcharging the electrical system, replace the alternator.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the alternator is regulating voltage correctly but the ECU is receiving excessive voltage on its supply pins, locate and repair the short-to-power in the wiring harness.

  3. ECU/EDC Replacement

If the wiring and alternator are both functioning perfectly, the fault lies within the ECU's internal voltage monitoring circuit. You must first attempt to reload the engine dataset.

  4. Restore Parameters

If reloading the dataset fails and the EDC must be replaced, use the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to restore the machine's self-learning parameters to the new controller.
